Where Does Our Hope Come From?
Jesus didn’t just come so that He could scoop us up and take us to heaven when we die. He came to do so much more than that.
Jesus isn’t coming again to burn everything up and start over. He isn’t coming to make new things but is coming to make all things new. He is currently redeeming and restoring all creation, fixing everything that we have broken.
This is why I have hope.
The Bible says that the Lord is our Judge, our Lawgiver, and our King and that he can save us (Is. 33:22). If we are going to have hope we have to wrestle with these four things. He is Judge, He is Lawgiver, He is King and Savior.
God made the world and put mankind in it and He gave us a job to do. There was a law in the garden and man disliked it, decided to do things his way and God’s judgment came.
We have disregarded God’s law and attempted to throw off his authority, but it has all been in vain. The Lord is our Judge and His judgment has come. Chaos, disorder, oppression and evil abound. The world is broken because we broke it.
We are not the Judge. We are not the Lawgiver. We are not the King. And we certainly can’t save ourselves or fix what we have broken.
The question many ask is… “Is there hope?” Hope for me? Hope for our loved ones? Hope for this messed-up and sin-sick world?
I have good news. There is hope, hope for you, and hope for anyone who wants it.
Shortly after man rejected God’s authority, God spoke about the coming defeat of His enemies. The serpent’s head would be crushed. Sin and death would be conquered with it and Jesus will make all His enemies His footstool.
The prophet Habakkuk proclaimed that “the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.”
What is this knowledge? What is this glory?
It is none other than the good news of Jesus and His Kingdom.
The Bible says that Jesus came proclaiming the gospel (good news) of the kingdom of God. God has sent the Savior and the King. Jesus faced off against the devil, sin and death. And He won. He died for the sin of His people and rose from the dead three days later. He conquered His greatest enemies for He is the Judge, the Lawgiver, the King and the Savior.
Jesus has come to restore our broken world. This is the good news of the kingdom of God. This is why I have hope.
Jesus has come to fix what we broke. He inaugurated His redemptive work when He came the first time 2,000 years ago. He is currently making all things new through His people as they disciple the nations and proclaim the Kingdom of God. He will come a second time to finish the work.
Yes, one day this will all be over. Chaos, disorder, oppression and evil. Jesus will end it all.
Is there hope? Yes there is. Jesus is making everything right. He can do that for you too. All of us have been broken by sin, including you. You can be redeemed. Forgiven. Restored. Healed. God does not play favorites and welcomes anyone who comes to Him on His terms.
What do you have to do? Jesus came proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. He says that we are to repent and believe this good news.
How do we believe? Biblical faith has to do with trust. Trust Christ. He is the only way. Don’t trust anyone or anything else to save you. He is the only one who can save you from the rushing waters of sin that have encompassed you. No one else has the power to pull you from the rushing water. Christ is the only way.
Jesus has conquered death and the grave. No one else has done that. He holds the keys of death for He has overcome it. He offers you this same victory. He paid the price. He did all the work. Would you receive His reward?
Would you receive the gift of God by faith? Would you come to your Judge, your Lawgiver, your King and the Savior?
